One of the few days where we have a majority of the crew all amped and ready to practice but the session room is packed like sardines.

Jan. 25, 2012: Dinner @ Ajito/Red’s welcome back

“Hey guys! In honoring the coming of the year 2012, I decided to make a short reel of my dance life since I was a freshmen up until now! A good four years of memories with the Cerritos Dance Drill/All Male Team and Deuces Wild. I seriously remember promising my friend Ervin I’d make one once I hit senior year. I’ve been caught up and I’ve misconstrued the true purpose and meaning of dance many times, but I believe the true purpose would always be have fun and enjoy every moment you have with it. Live it up while you’re young, and dancing is definitely my outlet. Given the years I’ve been dancing, it only makes me want to pursue it even more. 2012, I got this.”

-Paul Lee

It’s strange watching this clip and having memories flush back into my head, reminding myself on how young this kid is.  I still remember trying to get him into Deuces Wild years ago.  There was something about him that drew me to him and perhaps the rest of the crew believed so as well because after months and months of training he was finally able to step on the wild side.

I believe every single person on this crew brings something different from their life and contributes it to the definition of Deuces Wild.  Paul Lee couldn’t be more perfect for that statement.

I always make fun of Paul because he’s what you call… oh I don’t know… a “golden boy”.  He does everything and anything and not only that but he does it well.  You want a back tuck straight in formation?  You got it.  You want charisma during a battle?  Here you go.  It’s almost annoying how well he performs on the dance floor because you’re on the side thinking “fuck… he’s only 17?”  I don’t think his peers at CHS understand how amazing he is for stepping into both realms of urban dance.  It’s a tough thing to do, but he pulls it off.

This type of mentality, versatility, is mirrored in other aspects of his life.  He puts a huge emphasis on education and it showed throughout our time with him.  I won’t mention his GPA (probably a 5.0… yes for Paul Lee it’s somehow possible), but that combined with his status as captain of DDT and the other long list of extra curricular activities he has on his plate… it’s easy to view him as a headstrong, self - motivated and confident individual.  All qualities that define not only good character, but of a leader as well.

So with that being said, congratulations Paul Lee.  From Deuces Wild and more so myself… I can see a bright future ahead of you… we’re all fucking proud of you and it’s been a long time coming.  This is the homestretch for you… make it count and have fun.  Your journey is just beginning and we’ll all be watching you, supporting you and pushing you.  We love you fool!
